First,
coats started becoming enormous this winter. Then, the new spring/summer
collection arrived, and the oversize look dominated the catwalks.
Let’s say
it, it’s good news. In these complex times, roomy styles become the antidote to
stress, large shapes are casual by definition, they free us from constrictions
and give us a sense of easy chic that seems unintentional, even if it isn’t.
The cuts are fluid while maintaining a
subtly sartorial elegance. The clothes are spacious but secured by belted
waistlines, gigantic shirts are knotted at the hips, palazzo pants fall loosely
while still accentuating a nipped-in waist, the jackets take center stage for
their softness, but remain precisely cut, like we've seen in the colour trends.
Just one guideline: oversize + oversize = style catastrophe. Even oversize
has its rules, and they're precise: don't overdo it.
What to say
about glasses? Oversize is all the rage. Sunglasses have historically been
large, not only because of the necessity of better protection, but also because
they’re a symbol of seduction, and for 2020 we adventure into bold geometric
shapes, emphasising them. The metal frame, also in the model of reading
glasses, reigns supreme: eyewear with thin coloured steel wires frame the face
for an ultra-feminine and sophisticated look. A retro accent adds a final touch
of timeless style (
